“Gloria” is our tribute to the iconic CBS-era big headstock guitars used extensively by Hendrix in his Band of Gypsys period, and we’ve even added a reverse headstock for maximum vibe and aesthetic. Although somewhat maligned when compared to early '60s examples many of the later '60s instruments had a distinct and gutsy voice with bags of clarity and character. A shift in pickup design and manufacture had a definite impact here and we’ve recreated these later pickups with our “Timeless ’69” pickups fitted to Gloria.
We’ve used lightweight Korina for the body as it possesses a definite woody character and resonates brilliantly with a decent-sized neck. The neck here is a chunky affair - almost a full inch deep from 1st to 12th fret and with a wide nut, vintage correct 7.25” radius and beefy 6000 jumbo frets. This one just pleads for hard, stinging blues playing through a cranked Marshall stack. Narrow-spaced pearl dot markers lead the way.
The wonderfully aged black nitro finish is a timeless classic as is the worn feel of the neck with rounded fingerboard edges and an immediate played-in feel.
The hardware features a Gotoh vibrato bridge with upgraded “Highwood” saddles and Raw Vintage” vibrato springs with reverse Schaller vintage repro tuners to complete the look.
Our “Timeless ’69” plain enamel wound, grey-bottom pickups are a perfect match and wired through our usual top-notch, highest-quality CTS, Switchcraft and CRL electronic components for decades of hassle-free use.
